Can two natively regenerative organisms incorporate each other in the regeneration process? I performed a few rough experiments to explore this.
This is very much a hobby experiment that I performed for a Systems Biology course. I ordered some hydras and some planarians. I then cut them up (they are known to be regenerative organisms) and placed their pieces together for a few weeks to see if they incorporate each other via the regenerative process. I also did some controls in which I cut up the hydra and planarians individually. Though I did not achieve the ultimate success of building a "Hydrarian" through a regenerative process, I learned quite a lot. Feel free to contact me to chat about it!
